Marijuana Is More Mainstream Than Ever, So Why Is Legalization Still Taboo?

As voters in several states head to the polls today to decide Governor and city council races it seems appropriate to ask: “Why are most politicians still inexplicably silent on marijuana law reform?”The recent legislative hearings on cannabis regulation in Massachusetts and California notwithstanding, the fact remains that these debates are the exception, not the rule. In fact, voters in Maine and Colorado will decide on marijuana law reform ballot proposals today precisely because their elected officials outright refused to vote on the issues when they were put before them.
High Time to Legalize Infographic !
Here is a great infographic put together by the folks at Herald Daily. If shows all the states that have made marijuana legal for medical use and decriminalized it. It also shows info about the arrests and a brief history. Very informative. Click on the image to make it larger.

Oakland International Airport allows medical users to fly with up to eight ounces of marijuana.

Oakland International Airport may be the nation’s only airport with a specific policy letting users of medical marijuana travel with the drug.
The policy is spelled out in a three-page document quietly enacted last year by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. It states that if deputies determine someone is a qualified patient or primary caregiver as defined by California law and has eight ounces or less of the drug, he or she can keep it and board the plane.
Deputies warn the pot-carrying passengers that they may be committing a felony upon arrival when they set foot in a jurisdiction where medical marijuana is not recognized. But they say they don’t call ahead to alert authorities on the other end.
However, while Oakland may be the only airport with a written policy, I have a report from a medical patient in Oregon that Portland International will allow a cardholder to board a plane with up to that state’s legal limit of possession, or twenty-four ounces.
All I’m sayin’ is that I’ve found the specially-infused non-Kellogg’s-variety Rice Crispy treats are perfect for long flights. Easily packed in a carry-on, innocuous-looking, a sweet snack before takeoff, a dreamy nap in a pressurized tube hurtling through the sky at 500 miles per hour, very nice.
Almost 4 Percent Of People Worldwide Use Cannabis

One in 25 adults worldwide currently use cannabis, regardless of the health concerns the drug may cause, researchers reported Friday. Writing in The Lancet, Australian professors Wayne Hall and Louisa Degenhardt, used data from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime which found that about 166 million people aged 15-64 were using cannabis in 2006. This figure translates into 3.9 percent of the world’s population.
